Create Tea Gift Baskets for Tea Lovers
May 21, 2009
Janet Vogel asked:
This is not only a thoughtful gift, but it is also practical. It is a great gift for teachers or grandparents or as a get well or hostess gift. You can personalize tea gift baskets for a men, women, or for couples by choosing gift items that are their favorites. For a feminine look, use delicate colors for the containers, filler materials, and place a couple of small silk flowers among the gift and food items. For a more masculine look, use a natural color container such as a wooden crate or slat type of basket and use straw or a brown shred for the filler product.
Containers could be wicker baskets, unbreakable trays with an edge or handles, or wooden crates. Add purchased shred, straw, or excelsior in the container as a filler. If you have access to a paper shredder, make your own filler from newspaper, brown paper, old maps, or sheet music. Using filler products helps in the arrangement of the gifts and food items as it will hold them in place. It also gives your gift basket a more finished look. Another option is to use a decorative tea towel or cloth napkins to line the container.
Choose gifts and food items for your gift basket based on the size and shape of your container. A shallow container works well when the gift items are not too large. If you have larger items, choose a deeper basket or wooden crate. Start the assembly process by placing the larger gifts items in the center of the container and the smaller items around the sides of the containers. Play around with this until you are satisfied with the layout. You can use double sided tape to help keep the items in place; simply tape the items together.
Selecting gifts to place in tea gift baskets is rather easy as you can purchase many items in your local supermarket or dollar-type store. Place a small teapot or a tea cup and saucer in the center and arrange tea bags, loose tea, and small packages of cookies (shortbread, wafers, biscuits, etc.) around the gifts. Small jars of jams, jellies, or honey are also appropriate items. Two or three fresh lemons mixed in will give your gift basket a lovely finished look.
If desired, place your finished gift basket in a cello bag and tie it closed at the top with curly ribbon allowing the ribbon to hang down the front of the basket. Finally, remember to include a gift card.

Fall: Back To School Gifts For The New Teacher
May 20, 2009
Kim Taylor asked:
Back to school lists are everywhere. Stores are crowded with people rushing around to prepare kids for school. September approaches quickly! Whether your child is in first grade or fifth; a simple gift for their new teacher is a great idea!
Some schools have teacher appreciation days; other teachers never receive the recognition they deserve for their hard work. There are many small easy ways to appreciate and recognize the teacher in your child’s life. Teachers spend countless hours with the children and it is nice to recognize them for all of their hard work. The small little things you can do to make them feel appreciated will mean a lot to them as they start the year off!
Many kids come home with welcome baskets or welcome bags from their new teacher to welcome them into their classroom. Why not purchase a small gift for their teacher as well!
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Cookie Gift Baskets are a nice gift. Find a gift basket that is personalized for a teacher. Gift Baskets are useful for a teacher since once the food is gone, the basket may be used for storage or other items.
2. Personalized Mugs- A great idea for the teacher who loves their coffee in the morning! Most teachers like to keep a beverage in the classroom while teaching. Be thoughtful with a personalized mug with their own name on it to display on their desk.
3. A Unique Wall Clock- One way to impress is to purchase a unique wall clock for the teacher to display on their wall for all to see and enjoy. Since everything is scheduled in school, a wall clock will be most beneficial. The clock can be used by all including your child! It will definitely be a gift the teacher can enjoy day in and day out! With many different wall clocks to choose from, find one that best suites the style of your teacher and their classroom.
4. Games for the Classroom-Many teachers like to include a game shelf in their classrooms for their students for the rainy days! For teachers of older students, a great trivia game is a wonderful idea. Purchasing a game for a teacher’s gift will also benefit your child.
5. The Essential Tote- Teachers are known for carrying tote bags. Why not choose a special tote as a gift! Giving a practical gift that is useful will be remembered. Useful, practical gifts are always appreciated. Purchasing a tote will be appreciated more if you add a personal touch. Take note on the colors around the teachers room if your not certain of the style and color of tote to purchase. It’s always nice to go with a neutral color with a monogram. Find a tote that has pockets for all of the teacher’s accessories!
Overall whatever you choose be sure to include a nice thank you card signed by your child with your gift. Finding the perfect gift online is the easiest way to appreciate that special teacher in your child’s life.

Gift for Groomsmen and Bridesmaids
May 18, 2009
Joe Silla asked:
Traditionally, the groom is responsible for providing some sort of thank you gift to the groomsmen in his wedding party. This does not necessarily need to be of high cost. It is commonly something that has an engraved message or has some value to it.
It is often appropriate to give a gift to the groomsmen that fit with the sense and relationship that the groom has with those individuals. For example, a groom may give a beer mug to his friend, an usher, as a token of appreciation and a tool to remember their friendship over the last years.
The gifts for the groomsmen can be presented to the groomsmen at the rehearsal dinner. If not, they can be presented by the groom to his groomsmen on the wedding day, as the men are preparing and getting ready for the day. It is also appropriate for the gifts for the groomsmen to be given out at the bachelor party if this occurs in the right manner for doing so.
The gift should be something that is worth something as it is a token of thanks and gratitude to the groomsmen for all that they have done to help the groom in preparation of this day and for serving next to him throughout it.
Gifts for the Bridesmaids
Typically, the bride should provide a gift of thanks to her bridesmaids. The gift selection is completely open to what she selects. It is often something significant, though not necessarily costly.
The appropriate gift for the bridesmaids can be chosen as something that is the same for all those in the wedding party. Or, the gifts can be individual items given as a specific gift to each person. This is done at the discretion of the bride herself.
Since the gift is a token of thanks, it should be given as something that is meaningful to the ladies or something that is of value. They will use it as a way to remember this day and the bride.
The gifts for the bridesmaids are generally presented to the bridesmaids by the bride at the rehearsal dinner. They can also be given to the bridesmaids at the bridal luncheon where the bride hosts her bridesmaids for a meal together. If neither of these times is appropriate, the bride can give her bridesmaids a gift as they are preparing for their special day. But, often this is not the best choice as it can be very busy and stressful as it is.
Gifts to Guests
It is also necessary and etiquette dictates that the bride and groom, or those that are hosting the wedding reception and bridal shower, to give the guests that come a gift. This gift is often called a wedding favor.
A wedding favor is presented to the women that attend the event. While it is customary that the favors be given to all females in attendance, if the gift is something that is highly costly or inappropriate, a child can be given an alternative gift in lieu of the larger one.
The wedding favor can be any small token of thanks. There are plenty of wedding sites that offer a variety to select from right on the web. Selection of the wedding favor is completely up to the person hosting the wedding or shower.
Typically, the wedding favor will cost only a few dollars each. They should be marked with a tag that has the date of the event, the name of the couples and the occasion listed on it. Often, a small bouquet of candy is also included with the wedding favor.
Another tradition that is often used is the gift of cigars to the men that attend the wedding reception. The groom or the groom’s father is to give one to each man that comes to the reception. It is a sign of welcoming the groom to manhood.
Other Gifts
There are other gifts that can be given throughout the nuptials. Gifts of sentimental value are often exchanged from mother to daughter and from grandmother to granddaughter. Also, fathers may give their son’s something to honor the occasion.
While these gifts are not mandatory, they are often done as a token for the parents to honor their child’s accomplishments and successes.

Gifts and What They Say About You
May 14, 2009
John Smith asked:
Thoughtful gifts can say good things about the giver. Thoughtless gifts can tell the recipient you’re boring, lazy or lacking in imagination. Gifts that shout, “I have no idea what you like and couldn’t be bothered to find out” tend not to be very endearing.
What do you want your gifts to say about you? And what do you NOT want them to say?
“I left it to the last minute again and this was all I could find” is not an attractive message. “I went to the trouble of choosing something that was exactly right for you” is far preferable.
If you want your gifts to show you really care about someone, take the trouble to check out their likes and dislikes and make sure you know whether they enjoy surprises or would rather have gifts they actually want. You might think you know exactly what gifts they like but do you really? Have you been buying your mum or your wife the same chocolates or perfume year after year because she loved it so much the first time? Are you sure she hasn’t changed her tastes or still got the last three bottles tucked away in a drawer unopened? Maybe it’s time to rethink your gifts.
For a best friend or partner, gifts that say “We have so much in common that I knew if I liked it you would” can be a powerful affirmation of your closeness (as long as the underlying message isn’t “I bought this for you so I could borrow it”!). However, even if she is a football fan and wears the shirts as well as the trousers, a set of cufflinks boasting the messages “he always scored”, thanks to his impressive tackle” probably won’t make your girlfriend’s day, or indeed your grandmother’s.
It’s so much easier now you can order all your gifts on line, rather than trudging round the shops, so why not spend the time saved making those gifts even more special and personal. Instead of just giving a nice photo frame or album, you might like to select and insert the photographs yourself or you can really go to town and get a canvas montage made up, complete with personalised poem. Alternatively you can have a favourite photo professionally printed on a wash bag.
If you want to get full marks for originality, choose a Picture Pocket Wash Bag, Make Up Bag or Pencil Case and either let the recipient select their own photos, pictures and postcards with which to adorn it or take the trouble to personalise it for them with images you know to be their favourites, mementos of special events or times and places of significance to both of you. These could make equally good gifts for teenagers, grandparents or anyone in between. There is also a transparent umbrella which works on the same principle with pockets (on the inside so they don’t get wet) where you or the recipient can put favourite pictures or photos. If you are artistic you could even draw or paint the pictures yourself or make mini collages to insert. They can always take them out and replace them with their own if they think they’re rubbish!
Talking of rubbish (and recycling and stuff like that) perhaps you want your gifts to express not just how much you care about the recipient but also how much you care about the world in which you both live. How about A Protect the Planet or Carbon Credit Gift Box? Or you can adopt a Polar Bear or a Penguin for your loved one. You get a polar bear or penguin soft toy along with the certificate, postcards and information. This is not the same as buying someone a “white elephant”. Traditionally the King of Siam is reputed to have made gifts of white elephants to courtiers he wished to ruin as the revered creatures were expensive to keep and feed. Hence the term “white elephant” came to mean an unwanted gift. Don’t worry, the recipient will not be personally responsible for feeding the penguin or polar bear for ever more; the cost of these gifts incorporate a one-off donation to an appropriate wildlife charity.
Of course if you want your Gifts to say something very specific that cannot be communicated through subtlety, you can choose from a variety of items on which to have your own personal message engraved. Or if you want to keep it simple, choose from a range of Gifts that quite literally say “I love you”. If once is not enough, go for a calendar or diary that keeps saying it all year round with, “I love (their name)” incorporated into every picture.

Memorable Christmas Gifts for Everybody on Your List
May 12, 2009
Angelique Ellerman asked:
Christmas is fast approaching once again and now is the time to begin planning gifts and activities during the holiday season. Finding the perfect gift just involves keeping your eyes open, knowing what the recipient likes and finding the best deal. That’s why planning ahead can help to make the holidays less stressful so all you have to worry about is bringing yourself and of course any family.
Of course you are usually shopping for many different people, each of whom has their own very unique and distinctive tastes. Personally, I find that giving personalized gifts, making homemade keepsakes or finding items that allow the recipient to pursue their hobbies and interests are always the most appreciated gifts you can give your loved ones.
Keepsake items like: a personalized crystal or marble plaque, single or family style coaster sets, glass ornaments for an individual or the entire family, jewelry and jewelry boxes or valet trays, leather travel bags or luggage, sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, pajamas, terry robes or slippers, Swiss army knife, leather wallet, women’s tote bags and gift baskets come in a huge variety of colors, styles, sizes and themes sure to please even the most discriminating of tastes. Plus all of these gift ideas can be personalized with names and dates, initials, a poem, a company’s logo or even a famous quote.
Other items include but are not limited to: coffee mugs or a thermos, can Koozies for keeping beverages hot or cold, crystal barware, glasses or decanter sets, vintage or modern looking pub signs for the home bar, sterling silver or leather business card holder, leather passport cover and picture frames or photo albums all make unique and thoughtful keepsake gifts that can be proudly displayed and used for years to come.
Personalized gifts are especially fun and unique as children’s gifts. Children really love to see items made especially for them, later they become cherished keepsakes they will remember fondly. Items like: a letter from Santa, their very own book about them or about an adventure they had, baseball and glove, wooden or aluminum bat, piggy banks, blankets and or throws, room signs for both boys and girls, toys like a yo-yo or harmonica and finally you can have a sketch created of your child from a photograph or a funny caricature is also very memorable.
Gifts can also be homemade which saves money and becomes a truly unique keepsake gift. However for those of us who are not so creative, thankfully we can shop for uniquely crafted gifts. Gifts like: scented candles, blankets or Afghans, potpourri, photo albums and gift baskets can all be made at home or bought. Plus they can all be tailored specifically to what the recipients like and their unique styles.
Other ideas are as follows: banner or garden flags for an individual, pet or the entire family, a gift certificate to the recipients favorite store or stores, tickets to a concert or event and even etched glass plates, serving trays, bowls and candy dishes make fun gifts to both give and receive.
Also hobby gifts like: golfing accessories, wine gifts, hiking accessories, camping accessories, any special classes he or she may be interested in or even a hot air balloon ride or an African safari can be the best gift in the world depending on the individual. Just make sure the African safari goes to your cousin and not to grandma who requires a walker to get around.
Recipients include: your mother and father, girlfriend or boyfriend, grandmother and grandfather, spouse, the kids, any aunts or uncles and of course any in laws and other extended family like cousins and friends. This is why Christmas gets so stressful. With all the plans and a tight budget, sometimes we get a little swept away. Remember though, the gift doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be well liked and appreciated; it just has to fit into the recipients lifestyle and needs to be something they want or can use.
By planning ahead you will save yourself a lot of stress, plus time and money during the holiday season. The holidays are a time of giving, so give to everyone on your list as well as yourself this year. By taking advantage of sales throughout the year and planning ahead, plus remembering to take some time to unwind during and after all the festivities, you will find the holidays more enjoyable, less stressful and more memorable. 8 Great Christmas Gifts for Teachers
May 12, 2009
Star Smith asked:
Showing a hard-working teacher how much they are appreciated during the holidays is a wonderful idea. It’s nice to know that parents and kids care that you’re doing a good job of educating children. Now, what to give them?
Here are some gift ideas for that special teacher:
Gift Certificate – Give your teacher a gift he or she will really appreciate – a gift certificate. Your teacher can choose what they wish from any number of items available. Teachers can enjoy books, office supplies or a nice meal. Some good suggestions are: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Staples, Best Buy, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden.
Keepsake Ornament – Have your child make their teacher a personalized, handmade ornament of their own creation. Your local craft store will have supplies to make easy handmade ornaments. This is something that their teacher will treasure for many years.
Christmas Cookie Assortment – Make a big batch of delicious Christmas cookies for your teacher, or, order an assortment from a bakery. Teachers deserve a cookie break and this gift will be enjoyed to the very last crumb.
Christmas Music CD – Give teacher the gift of holiday music. There’s a wide array of Christmas CDs, from single artist to compilations to classical. Try to find out what type of music the teacher likes before selecting a CD.

A Timeless Gift for a 1st Birthday
May 11, 2009
Sarah Dechant asked:
One of the most vivid memories I have of my grandmother is going though her jewelry and trying on all her diamonds and gold. It seems like we did this about once a year from as early as the age of four until I was about twenty, give or take a year.
As an adult there are little things that hallmark our childhood and make it special to us. My grandmother, being a simple woman, and jewelry being her only indulgence, made the time we shared rummaging though her jewelry so special to me.
I remember, she would let me try on anything I wanted. Sometimes she would surprise me with a piece of costume jewelry. She would tell me it’s new and, let me try it on. We would ooh and awe about it and then she would tell me I could have it. Although I knew it was not real gold or encrusted with precious stones I loved it all the same. It was a gift from my grandma. And these little trinkets commemorated the time we shared that was so special to me.
One year, I think I was about eleven, we were going through her trove of treasures I discovered a piece of tarnished jewelry that did appear worthy to be in her coveted jewelry chest.
It was a tiny bracelet made of tiny sterling silver and turquoise beads. Confused that something so old and not nearly as beautiful as all the others in my grandmother’s special place, I pulled the tiny bracelet from the chest. As I flipped the beads around one by one and soon realized it revealed my name.
As a child I had an uncommon name. It was rare for a company to include my name on pre-made on personalized items. My brother and my sisters could always buy stickers and pencils with their name on them and I was almost always left feeling left out.
In any event at this age it was astonishing for me to see my name on a piece of jewelry even one as old, beat up and used as this one. My eyes lit up. “Was this mine when I was a baby?” I asked. She nodded and I gently placed the tiny bracelet back in its place among her most cherished possessions.
Had it not been for that day, I would have never known a baby bracelet with my name ever existed.
Over the years, personalized baby bracelets have come a long way. They have so many styles and personalization options available compared to the bracelet I had discovered so many years prior. Styles for both girls and boys with every type of personality are available. These timeless treasures are constructed using Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, sterling silver charms and strung on thin and sturdy nylon coated stainless steel wire.
It certainly is a delightful keepsake that will be cherished years after it’s outgrown.

So, what are your options for teacher gift ideas?

Homemade Gift Baskets for Teachers
May 10, 2009
Janet Vogel asked:
Creating a gift basket for your child’s teacher is a great way to show your gratitude for the attention and assistance paid to your children. The time you dedicate to putting together an assortment of gift and food items, chosen just for the teacher, is your way of personalizing your gift as a gesture of your appreciation.
If the teacher drinks coffee, make this your theme. A natural colored wicker basket is the ideal container. Place straw, crumpled brown paper, or shredded newspaper in the basket before placing the gifts. Add a decorative coffee mug, gourmet coffee, envelopes of flavored coffee, and small packages of cookies or chocolate candy. You can wrap the finished gift in cello paper or a cello bag tied at the top with raffia or curly ribbon. Place the gift card in the basket with the gifts so it doesn’t get lost.
It’s not necessary to spend a great deal of money on these gift baskets. Visit your local dollar type store for baskets, organizers, or large coffee mugs to use as containers. They usually carry an assortment of colorful shred to use as filler, ribbons, bows, gift tags, and lots of small gift items that are nice when making gift baskets.
Movies, music, and sports are other themes that should be appropriate for many teachers. Simply choose a container, filler materials to help hold your gift items in place, and well wrapped food and gift items. Gift cards are always great gifts when you are unsure of the preferences of the teachers.
An assortment of bath products and aromatherapy items is a nice idea for a female teacher. Fill in empty spaces with rolled washcloths, bars of soap, votive candles, a loofah, net sponges, etc. If you include food gifts make sure they are well wrapped as the scents from the bath products may seep in.
Your gift basket can be as simple as a wicker basket lined with a colorful cloth napkin or tea towel. Place a loaf of freshly baked bread (or several muffins) wrapped in see through bags or wrap and tied with raffia in the same color as the napkin or tea towel. Add several tea bags and a couple of small jars of preserves or jelly.

Do you Like your Gifts to Stand Out?
May 7, 2009
Faye Kelsy asked:
Everyone wishes to be unique. Blending in is thought of as passe. Today, everybody likes to stand out, to be adored, to be known by their own signature. With the clothes we wear, the manner we fashion our hair, the people we relate with, and a lot more, we attempt to be different. We like to be one of a kind. Because rarity is great.
Even with our gifts, we don’t like it to be plain. Who will? Everything should be one of a kind: unique graduation gifts, unique mother’s day gifts, unique bridal party presents, even with sympathy presents we wish ours to be something out of the ordinary. Why? Because we wish to be fondly cherished by the individual we are giving it to.
One method to ensure your gift stands out and be appreciated is to have it customized. Do not just go purchase something from the shop, wrap it, and then hand it over. That is so impersonal. Go the additional mile and create something with your hands. Our parents are the perfect people to send gifts to. Probably you can present your father embroidered handkerchiefs at any given occasion or any time, for that matter, just to make his day special. For Mom, some personalized hand bags using rhinestone jewelry and colorful beads might be a superb addition to her handful of bags.
Correct me if I am wrong, but a wedding is one of those events wherein presents are necessary. You can’t just barge in on a wedding ceremony with bare hands. You have to have something for both or any of the newlyweds. And, truth be told, some even compare gifts to discover which of them possessed the best! Petty, I know, yet it happens. When you believe some elaborate crystal bridal jewelry is so cliche, how about a couple of unique bridal shower favors? Besides, the newlyweds get numerous gifts on their wedding day, and they’d absolutely forget who sent which after the honeymoon, so let yours be an advance gift.
Are you aware of the unity sand ceremony? Try to see if the couple is going to perform this ceremony on their wedding and recommend on presenting them the unity sand ceremony kits yourself. Of course they’d have to choose which one they will make use of, but won’t that be different? If not, then probably you can proceed and settle to have the wedding toasting glasses to be on you. Now your gift didn’t merely stand out, it is part of the wedding itself!
Shopping for gifts is definitely enjoyable as well as exciting. Unlike when you are buying for yourself, shopping for a loved one could mean placing your foot on their shoes then observing at each thing with the other person’s eye. You could not pick out something because you want it, unless you share similar preferences in things. And in order for it to be unique, add your personal touch to it. You can buy unique gifts over the Internet, ladies handkerchiefs for example, and add some interesting embroidery designs as your signature. And voila! A present!
