Bugalug Review

March 25, 2009

Bugalug is Canada’s top little girl accessory company and I’m so pleased that I had the opportunity to review a few of their adorable products! Bugalug was created by mother of two, Sundi Hoffman of Calgary, Alberta who has made it her mission to create accessories for little girls that truly stay put. She was extremely successful in her endeavour and won the SavvyMoms’ Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Prairies. I think her story is inspiring to all the mompreneurs out there! Another interesting tidbit of info is that her company was chosen to provide products to big name celebrities including Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Courtney Cox and Angelina Jolie.

Bugalug started out making barrettes, but have since expanded their product line to include headbands, pony tail loops and hand-made gift cards. Their products can be found in more than 303 stores across Canada and 4 in other countries and they are continually expanding their reach each month.

Bugalug gave me the opportunity to try out 3 of their products- Bugalug Pony Loops, Bugalug Barrettes and Bugalug Headbands. They all looked so sweet on my little girl, Bridget.

The Bugalug Pony Loops are each handcrafted so you can buy two from the same pattern, but they are guaranteed to be unique! I got three different ones all from a pink and white colour scheme which I love. I wanted to try them out a few times so I could give a better review. I used them in Bridget’s hair as a ponytail and then in pigtails. I can tell you that they did stay put in her hair the whole day and were not slipping out. Bridget has fine, thin hair like me which is really hard to keep in one style the whole day. The Bugalug Pony Loops stayed in her hair comfortably and she didn’t complain about them one bit! They are priced at $3.50 each.

The next product I had to try was the Bugalug Barrettes. The ones I received are called Starbright Purple and they cost $8.00 for a set of two. The Bugalug Barrettes are unique because of silicon gel grip on the inside of every barrette which is to ensure that the clip will not budge. These barrettes really do stay where you put them. I always find that barrettes tend to slide out of Bridget’s hair, but these actually worked really well. I thought the grippy strip is a great idea and hey it works! My favourite product is the Bugalug Headband and the name of the one I reviewed is the Darling Debut Linked Flowers Headband. It’s described as a 1 inch satin ribbon with delightful flowers in red, black and white. The neat thing about Bugalug Headbands is a nifty little thing called the “comfortable toggle”. This allows you to make the headband the perfect size to fit your little girl’s head. You can adjust it to make it looser or tighter very easily. You simply slip the headband on your child and the toggle is at the back under the hair and you tighten it to fit. So simple! What a cute little headband too! Bridget looked adorable wearing it and like all Bugalug accessories, it also stayed in place!

Check out the Bugalug website to see all the other little accessories that they have to offer. They are both cute and functional which is a great combination!

Jack and Lily Review & Giveaway

March 23, 2009

Jack and Lily specializes in ultrasoft, fashionable shoes for babies and toddlers. These adorable little shoes are handcrafted and made with “Lamb Touch” leather so they feel incredibly soft. They have more than 70 pairs of these designer baby shoes that will match every outfit imaginable.

Jack and Lily Bashful Bunnies is part of the Original Collection and would be perfect for Easter.
The Jack and Lily Lovebirds in Chocolate comes from the My Collection by Jack and Lily. I think they are so cute!
My Review

I had the opportunity to review the Jack and Lily Saddle Pink & Brown shoes from the My Collection. They are completely adorable!! Not only are they cute, but they are well made with premium 100% cowhide leather. Even the inside of the shoe is suede lined. It is soft soled and good for indoor/outdoor use and is the perfect shoe for new or pre-walkers with its skid resistant sole.

My niece, Avery, is 10 months old and she got to try out the shoes. She isn’t walking yet, but these would be a good shoe for her to wear when she does. My sister, Laura, Avery’s mom, thought the shoes were really precious and said they looked like a well made, good quality shoe. Laura said the Jack and Lily shoes are perfect for Avery to wear with a pretty Spring dress. Here’s a pic of Avery in her new shoes- so sweet!

These shoes are reasonably priced at $30 and can be purchased at the Jack and Lily website or you can find a store near you. They have stores in US, Canada and Internationally. I just checked to see how many stores in Ontario sold Jack and Lily shoes and they have quite an extensive list!

Check out Jack and Lily if you have a wee little one in your life and see for yourself just how cute these shoes are.

Ellembee Giveaway

March 22, 2009

Ellembee is an etsy shop that carries such pretty handprinted clothes. She really has nice stuff and in styles that I can see myself wearing on a regular basis. I like the look of this one- Fo’ Shizzle my Sprizzle Tie-Neck Tee in Mocha- it’s a A line looser fitting shirt that will give a more flattering shape.
This next one is made from 68% Bamboo! I don’t think I have ever worn a Bamboo shirt, but after seeing this one, I want to! Bamboo is a natural eco-friendly plant that is biodegradable. Entanglement Tee Made From Bamboo.

They even have onesies! This one is adorable- Dandelion Wishes Onesie with Chocolate on Cotton Candy Pink.

Lisa is the owner/designer of Ellembee and here’s what she has to say about herself and her shop…

I went to a private art school in San Francisco for fashion design. I had been working for the past 5 years in Southern California as a bedding designer before I got laid off in January of 2008. I moved back to Michigan in February 08 to ‘regroup’ and that’s when I started ellembee. I really didn’t know what I was doing, and I was just trying to make a couple of bucks before I found another ‘real’ job. But then ellembee took off and the rest is history! I sell on etsy and at craft shows in the summer, and I love all the cool people I’ve been meeting. Working for myself better than I ever imagined! Other than that, I like to read, knit, golf, go to movies. I’m active in my church and am loving being back by my family in Michigan!!

Customized Girl Review & Giveaway

March 22, 2009

If you were to open my closet right now, you would see that my main article of clothing is t-shirts. I have them in all colours, designs and fabric and am always on the lookout for a cool looking t-shirt to add to my wardrobe. I’m very excited to introduce my readers to Customized Girl because I have found my favourite t-shirt!!

But first, let me tell you a bit about Customized Girl and what they have to offer. Customized Girl is an interactive website focused on personalized fashion. They believe in encouraging creative expression and know that fashion is more exciting when you can be your own personal designer.

It’s well laid out and simple to use. You can browse through the countless designs already listed or you can create your own unique signature t-shirt, hoodie, pants, and even underwear! They have clothes for women, men, and kids as well as accessories.

Create Your Own Vampires and Werewolves Tee

I went browsing through the designs already there for women and came across the Vampires & Rhinestones category. Seeing I am obsessed with Twilight (which btw is out today!!) I wanted to share this cute little t-shirt that was inspired by the series. They have many more in there too so you can check them out. Or why not design your own Twilight t-shirt?

My Review

Customized Girl asked me to design my own t-shirt for my review. The process was straightforward- I selected the style of shirt I wanted which was the Bella® Sheer Longer Crew Neck Tee. I prefer longer shirts since they are usually more flattering on me. I went with the colour black and I wanted to keep it simple so I choose to put a triquetra on the front. The t-shirt is a snug fit and is 98% Cotton and 2% Spandex.

When I first tried on the t-shirt, I was amazed at the softness of the material. Even after being washed many times, it still retains the softness. Another great thing is that it fits so well. I often found in the past when I bought shirts that were tight fitting that they would stretch out after I wore them a few times. This shirt maintains the shape and was not stretched out in the slightest! I want to get more of this style but in other colours and with other designs on the front. This literally is the best t-shirt I have ever owned. I recommend this company 110%. Even the design on the front didn’t peel off or fade at all.

Create Your Own Custom Design Now!

Customized Girl only carries the best brands like Bella, American Apparel and Gildan in order to ensure the highest quality for their customers. As for price, the shirt I received was $24.97 which is definitely affordable and on par with what you would pay in other stores. Love Love Love this company!!!

Cowlick Cutie Review & Giveaway

March 20, 2009

My little girl Bridget loves to get dressed up and pretend she is a princess. She wants to have her hair all done up and she has even gotten into my makeup when I wasn’t looking and tried to apply it herself! Errrr…not a pretty site lol! When I came across this adorable etsy shop called Cowlick Cutie, I knew that Bridget would love the sweet little hairbows perfect for any princess.

Cowlick Cutie’s owner is SAHM mom Jenny who puts 110% into making all her bows and clippies for your little girl. She has so many cute things from various style of hair bows, clippies, binky holders, keychains, memo boards and bow organizers.

This bow would be adorable to wear with a pretty spring dress. It’s called Purple Haze and it’s only $4! Love it!

Cute as a Cupcake is a unique looking loopy bow and it’s $6.

I wanted to learn more about Jenny and her business and I had to chance to ask her a few questions and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I am a 29 yr. old stay-at-home mom to 3. 2 boys, 9 and 6, and a little girl, 2. I have been married to my high school sweet heart for almost 10 yrs. now. I live in Aiken SC. I have never really been the crafty type until just recently. When I had my little girl, I wanted to make sure that she was as girly as possible since I had 2 boys before her. It’s a pretty tough thing to do when all she wants to do it go outside with her older brothers and play in the dirt!! When I’m not playing with my kids or doing my mommy and wife duties I love to shop!! It’s not a great quality to have, but that’s what I enjoy. I like to help others as much as possible in any way that I can. I love my family and friends and they mean the world to me.

Please tell me about your shop.

I started making hair bows back at the end of this past November, and opened an Etsy shop at the Beginning of December. I love getting on Etsy and chatting with other Etsians. I get most of my sales through the chat rooms. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to promote my business yet, but am still trying to find different ways of doing that. My Aunt owns a boutique in Rome, Ga. and she is selling some of my bows there. Other than that, I simply do it because I love it! I like to try and add my own touch to my hair bows and make them unique in some way. I have found that I am sort of a perfectionist when it comes to making them, and I want to sell nothing but the best to my customers. I sell Hair Bows, clippies, and Hair Bow holders. The boards and the letter style. I got the Name CowLick Cutie by luck! I was having the hardest time coming up with a good name! I was on the phone with my best friend and I was searching “hair” on the thesaurus. I went though all the words and jokingly said Cowlick Cutie. She loved it, and so did everyone else I ran it by. It stuck with me and there you have it! CowLick Cutie, Open for business!!

My Review

Jenny at Cowlick Cutie sent me a hair bow called “Brown Cow” for my review. It’s a brown bow with pink polka dots and is so precious! All her clippies and hairbows are made with 100% grosgrain ribbon so they will stand the test of time. I put the hair bow in Bridget’s hair and it looked adorable. I love the contrast of the pink and brown which is one of my favourite colour combinations (I guess you can see that from my blog right?).

It stayed comfortably in Bridget’s hair all day and she was not complaining or fussing with it as she does for some hair accessories in the past. This one stayed put and everyone commented on a what sweet little girl she was. Bridget loved all that attention!

Cowlick Cutie has very good prices which are extremely affordable. Her quality of work is superb and I think she has a wide range of selection to choose from. It was hard for me to choose just one bow for my review since there were so many that I wanted to get!

Wall Talk Review & Giveaway

March 20, 2009

I love creating a space in my home that is truly me and makes me feel instantly “at home” when I walk into the room. I think your home is the perfect canvas to express yourself and make it your own. WallTalk is a Canadian company that can help you do just that. They are the leading manufacturer of decorative wall quotes and words and believe me the selection they offer is phenomenal.

The WallTalk quotes and words are all pre-cut and pre-spaced letting that is both easy to apply and completely removable. All quotes measure 40 to 50 inches in length and come in various colours to suit your taste.

They make all their products in Canada which is awesome! I fully support Canadian companies! There is something for every taste and they have many categories like Baby Talk and Lipstick Collection that you can browse through online. They have really good prices too!

My Review

I received “Dream…a little dream each day.” from the Original Wall Talk Collection and I put this up in my bedroom. My bedroom was really blah before and I didn’t have much for decorations. On a sidenote, we had $25,000 worth of damage last year due to an ice dam so we still have completely redecorated. I wanted to choose a quote that flow with the bedroom as well as something that would make sense to go into that room. I figured something with Dream in it would be perfect.

I love this quote and it kind of reminds me of that old song “Dream a Little Dream of Me”. My husband adn I decided to put it up over our bed since that space was sad looking and completely bare. It was so easy to apply! We just made sure it was straight on the wall and then rubbed a credit card over the letters to get them to transfer on the wall. We peeled back the paper and voila! We have our quote!

I think the effect it had on the room was transformational and made it look much more inviting. I absolutely love it and now I want to get more to do other rooms in my house! The price for the quote that I received is $24.98. For that price, I would definitely be buying other quotes.

You can purchase WallTalk from retailers across Canada and USA and you can check online to find the nearest to you. I just checked and they actually have three different retailers in Pembroke which is a small city near where I live. If there isn’t a retailer near you, you can still order from the WallTalk website.

Overall I love WallTalk and can’t wait to get more quotes to transform the rest of my house!

Miss Gina Designs Review & Giveaway

March 18, 2009

If you browse through Miss Gina Designs, you will find a variety of unique handmade items in a wide range of styles. They carry products to suit all tastes including conservative, preppy, funky, folk-artsy, etc. This is truly a store where there is something for everyone. What does Miss Gina Designs sell? Well, she carries many things including aprons, blankies, clutches, wristlets, purses and even jewelry!

Many of the items at Miss Gina Designs are OOAK (One of a Kind) and can be customized with embroidery or handpainting to suit your needs. I love the idea of OOAK and that makes your purchase even more special! Quality and customer service is extremely important to the folks at Miss Gina Designs and they truly appreciate everyone of their customers.

Miss Gina Designs loves creating products that customers can be proud to use or give to friends and family as gifts. I love this Custom Diaper Bag and think it would make a great gift for a new mom.

As many of you know, I love jewelry. I think this OOAK Purple Bead Bracelet is really cute.

Review
Miss Gina Designs sent me this handmade wristlet for my review. My first impression was that I loved the beautiful fabric! They used a combination of two pretty fabrics and they are in my favourite colour- pink! It has a very stylish, feminine look that would suit many of my outfits.

Another thing that impressed me was how well made it is. This is a handmade item, yes- but its extremely well put together and sewn and very professional looking. I can tell whoever put this wristlet together knew what they were doing. I always check that when I buy handmade things to see if they will fall apart and was happy to discover that this bag was of high quality craftsmanship. Thumbs up from me!
I wanted to put the wristlet to the test to see how it felt when I went out shopping. I put my wallet, sunglasses, car keys and cheque book in the wristlet to see how it would hold up. It is fully lined and not at all flimsy feeling. It also has a zipper closure to keep all your goodies safe inside. The wrist strap is removable, but I decided to keep it on and just looped it around my wrist. I felt comfortable wearing it and found it very functional to use. It did the job as it was intended to do and I plan to definitely wear it again on other outings.
Plus the price can’t be beat. This particular one that I received is $12.00!! To me that is extremely reasonable and definitely well worth the money. If you have a look around at other products at Miss Gina Designs, you will find they are very affordable.
Overall I loved what my wristlet because it is the perfect combination of style and functionality and the price can’t be beat!
To purchase any of Miss Gina Designs products, please visit their website.
